The Harry Nowick / Andy Pecora Award

The Harry Nowick/Andy Pecora award is presented  to the High School Softball team From Union, Essex, Morris, Sussex and parts of Passaic and Somerset Counties which best represents the “Spirit of Competition And Exemplary Sportsmanship” which reflects the NJSBUA’s Commitment to the game of softball. This Award is an annual Presentation.

Harry Nowick was the first softball interpreter for the NJSBUA. He also served as President in 1961. He was invited to officiate in every NJSIAA Tournament final until he retired. He conducted clinics throughout the Eastern seaboard States. He was invited by the European Command to serve as a clinician for servicemen. His knowledge of Softball was second to none. His unquestioned ability and integrity represent another corner of the character of good umpiring that we strive to uphold for our membership and the schools we serve.

Andy Pecora served as our Softball Interpreter and a Cadet instructor from 1979 to 2015.  He also served as President in 1988 and he was inducted into the NJSBUA Hall of Fame in 1993. Andy also worked with Harry umpiring the NJSIAA State Finals in each of its first several years.
